In Spite of Economic Recession, Midlothian Gift Shop Finds a Way to Establish a Scholarship for Area Seniors.

Midlothian, Virgina,(PRWEB) March 15, 2009 - A scholarship in the field of retail, merchandizing, fashion, or visual arts has been established by Accents Unlimited Inc. in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The Accents on Retail Scholarship will be given to the high school that wins a competition in Accents Unlimited.

"All high school seniors in Chesterfield County can come in the store during April and register their graduation wish list," according to Kathy Rivera, owner of Accents Unlimited Inc. There will be free gifts for the students that come to the store to register. The registration will end on April 25th, Senior Wish Day. The school with the most wish list entries will win the scholarship.

Students from the winning school can go online and apply for the scholarship by May 25th.They must submit a 500 - 1000 word essay on what they want to do in the field of retail, merchandizing, fashion or visual arts and why they are the most deserving of the scholarship. According to Mrs. Rivera " The entries will be reviewed by my board and the we will select a winning student by May 31st. I know we are late in getting this off the ground but I hope to get the PTA organizations on board to help spread the word."

In spite of the challenging economic times, Kathy Rivera says she will continue with the scholarship funding. "I got the idea last year when we went to a training session for Vera Bradley. Another shop had the idea of the school competition for a gift from the shop but I thought it would be nice to establish the scholarship program, to make it a gift that will make a real difference to the student. I hope to expand on this scholarship each year and have one for each high school in the years to come. I just think it's a great way to give back to my community."
